The best career for a woman
Taking a short break to release tension… maybe a short entry for breaking the long silence
Nowadays people talk about career; what career you want to establish; how to achieve your dream career, and etc. Some woman not even think of marriage before they successfully establish their careers.
Everyone has their own choice of what to achieve in their life. But for me myself, now i am a wife and a mother to two toddlers. What is the best carrier for a woman like me? Home manager? Accountant? Teacher? Businesswoman?
When ummi meet businesswomen like ummi’s mother’s friend, almost all will advise on working, including ummi’s Mama.
What do you think?
The conflict of being a home-mother and a career-mother always fighting within me. At time, I feel guilty towards my little princesses.
These were our conversation with Amaani; my first daughter :
Ummi: “Ummi keje boleh?”(Can Ummi work?)
Amaani : “Ummi umah, Abi keje.” (Ummi at home, Abi go to work)
Abi : “Ummi nak buat ape kat umah” (What will Ummi do at home?)
Amaani : “Ummi tido”(Ummi sleep)…
hehe… if ever Ummi sleeps, she’ll be satisfied enough… as long as she can be with Ummi. Children are really honest!!
to be continued…
p/s : When I started to write on this topic, I remembered asking Abi for his opinion on a woman being a corporate lady. I’ll share it out with all of you so that it benefits all in the next entry.
And a short update.
Now Amaani is going to school. We don’t even have time to post it here. But she really enjoys school…yep..one of my senior staff said: “Isn’t it too early to send your daughter to school? She will have another 20 years to go…” I know that the 20 years will be coming down the line…but I have different opinion on going to school early. I myself was enrolled to standard 1 when I was 6 years old. There were 6 of us (Me, Dr. Elhuda, Miss Bash, Naimah, Ustazah Sri Wahyu, Miss Asma’) having the same condition; being the special girls to take SPRA (Sijil Penilaian Rendah Agama-can’t remember the old name during our time…Sijil what eh?) when we were already in Form 1 Secondary School-we were supposed to sit for the Exam in Standard 6 but were not qualified because we were 11 years old
Girls! Do u remember that 1 month intensive we’d gone thru before the exam? Sitting under the table in the school library to read the books, learning to write khat during the 1 month period, etc… Memories make me happy
Anyway, I’m flexible in my principle. If Amaani seems to be not well responding to school, I bet she have to stay at home with her Wan… The most important thing is that she likes what she is doing and I’m suppose to teach her that learning is not only in school. ok, take care to all…Allah Haafiz, wassalam

Do elaborate further on this topic, a topic that’s very close to heart… I myself am currently a so-called ‘corporate lady’ at the moment, but aspires to be a WAHM (work at home mum) in the future (not too distant, I hope!) I think: ideally, women should have the option to be a fulltime homemaker. Unfortunately in today’s reality, it is better for women to also have some source of earnings, so the next option is to work from home (biz, freelance, tele-working). Sometimes, money may not be an issue, but having something ‘else’ to do besides managing home is good to the mum for some sense of ’self’ and satisfaction. The next best option is the have a flexible job, or one that isn’t too demanding of time (for eg lecturer, teacher, consultant etc), and when I say not too demanding of time means not having to come home at 8 or 9 p.m.! Having said all these though, I believe that every mother (and father, of course) can do good and responsible parenting regardless of what their job is like, if they make the effort. At the end of the day, it’s all about choices we make.
